The Fighting Warriors story
The Fighting Warriors chess team is made up of a committed and loyal band of chess players proud of our position at
the top of the GameKnot team table in terms of overall team score.
We were founded in 2005 by our Honorary President Achilles13 and many of our players have been with the team for the majority of that time.
We set out to reach the top of the team score table and we eventually achieved this in June 2008. We have held on to this position ever since.
The definition of a Warrior is "someone engaged in or experienced in battle". For us the battle is confined to the 64 squares and
is a battle of intellect, skill and temperament. We leave all further connotations of aggression to one side.
We are a group of men and women of mixed ability who enjoy chess and who particularly appreciate the added edge that comes with playing team chess. We play as individuals, of course, each with individual goals for improvement, but our efforts are equally for the collective and for the team.
We stage regular tournaments within the team and we are lucky in that many of our better players give freely of their time to set up coaching games against colleagues. Many of our players have improved their game and their rating level through this approach.
We are fortunate in that not many choose to leave us once they have joined but we are always open to welcoming new recruits. We will consider any application from those who can demonstrate a solid track record of completed games. Those with a record of timing out on games need not apply.
Our team rules
All Fighting Warriors agree to:
- show respect to both team mates and opponents alike
- avoid incurring time-outs as part of that respect for the team
- display the Fighting Warriors banner as their GK avatar
